Bush Intercontinental Airport is situated about 23 miles from downtown Houston in the northern part. Hobby Airport is located about 8 miles from the central business district, Houston. It was the primary commercial airport for Houston till 1969 before Bush Intercontinental Airport came into operation.

Various Fights of Houston

Bush Intercontinental Airport has several flights to domestic and international destinations. It is ranked third in US in terms of the total number of domestic and international destinations served non-stop by the airport, behind Atlanta and Chicago Airports. It serves 31 destinations in Mexico, more than any other airport in the US.

Hobby Airport serves various domestic destinations and is an important center for private and corporate aviation.

Airport at Houston

Houston is the headquarter of Continental Airlines and Bush Intercontinental Airport is the largest hub of Continental. Spread over an area of 10000 acres, it has five terminals. Hobby Airport, spread over an area of 1300 acres has four runways. All the flights operate from one central concourse terminal.

Popular Airplanes that operate from Houston

All the major national and international carriers have their services from Bush Intercontinental Airport. Apart from Continental Airlines, it is served by Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta, Northwest, United, Us Airways, Air France, British Airways, Continental, KLM, China Airlines, Korean Air, etc. There are charter airlines also for a few companies operated by World Airways.

Hobby Airport is served by eight commercial airlines. Almost eighty percent of its daily flights are served by Southwest Airlines. Other major airlines operating from this airport are AirTran Airways, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue Airways, etc.

Facilities available in the airport

There are separate train services available within the sterile zone and outside the sterile zone at the Bush Airport. The train services in the sterile zone carry travelers changing over to another terminal without going through the security check again. The inter-terminal train service operating outside the sterile zone also connects all the five terminals at the airport.

Hobby Airport is capable of handling all the aircrafts, except the large narrow-body ones. Because of the low-fare carrier options at Hobby Airport, short distance travelers generally prefer Hobby over Bush Airport for domestic destinations. In a recent survey, this airport was rate as the number one airport in the country in terms of customer satisfaction. There are metro bus services in the baggage area, shared-ride shuttle services from airport to different places in the city.
